Kailua-Kona to Waimea: how long is the drive?
What this drive is
Kailua-Kona is the dry west-side town most visitors use as a base, and it stretches south through Keauhou, Hōlualoa, Kealakekua and Captain Cook.
Waimea is the cool upland ranch town in the middle of the north of the island. Hotel bookings often call it Kamuela; it is the same place.
What it costs as a day
There and back is 2 hours of driving, before you do anything at either end. The climb out of the heat into ranch country, and the first half of most Kona-to-north-side days.
